Datamax Migration Guide

Datamax Migration Guide

The names Datamax and Intermec will soon disappear from the label printer market. Over the last few years, they have migrated to the Honeywell platform.

Honeywell has now formally announced the End-of-Life (EOL) of its long-serving Datamax-O’Neil industrial and desktop printer range including A-Class, E-Class, H-Class, I-Class and M-Class printers. As a result, the Datamax-O’Neil range of printers will no longer be available for purchase.

Products reach the end of their product life cycle for a variety of reasons. Factors may include parts or repair resource availability, technology innovation, or the products are no longer economically feasible to continue support.

A full list of key like-for-like replacement options for legacy models can be found below to help guide forward planning. The models suggested will maintain the same level of performance and functionality as the superseded model.

Desktop Label printers

End Of Life: E-Class

Recommended replacement: PC42, PC43

Honeywell recommends the PC43 as replacements for the E-Class. Or for basic printing needs at the most affordable price, choose the PC42.

The PC43 series is a popular choice for light-duty, desktop applications of up to 1,000 labels per day. It prints faster than the E-Class, has a better user experience, and gives you “Smart Printing” which allows you to operate the printer without a PC. Add a keyboard, barcode scanner or other USB peripherals directly to the printer.

Light Industrial Printers

End Of Life: M-Class

Recommended replacement: PD43, PD45

The PD43 series of light industrial thermal printers are the recommended replacements for the M-Class printers. They incorporate the latest printing innovations into a compact and affordable solution designed to deliver high print performance in a smaller footprint. Often suited for the distribution centre, warehouse, and airline passenger service.

The PD45 series printer is Honeywell’s new commercial-grade industrial printer, which is suited for manufacturing, retail, transportation & logistics, health care, and government applications.

Mid Industrial Printers

End Of Life: I-Class

Recommended replacement: PM43, PM45

Honeywell suggests the PM43 and PM45 as replacement printers for the I-Class. The PM43 mid-range industrial printers deliver fast print speeds, drop-in deployment, advanced connectivity, and proven reliability. Built to support maximum uptime, PM Series printers are available with either a tamper-proof colour touchscreen in 10 languages or a universal icon interface.

The PM45 industrial printers are designed for high-quality label printing in harsh industrial environments. They print relatively fast at up to 14 IPS (200 dpi model). The PM45 printer can ensure high print quality of barcodes, texts, and images, even on small electronic components and pharmaceutical labels.

Industrial Printers

End Of Life: H-Class

Recommended replacement: PX4/6ie, PX940

PX940 is the recommended replacement for the H-Class printers. It’s the industry’s first label printer with a fully integrated barcode verifier (optional). With its print registration of up to +/- 0.2 mm (0.0079 in) it is extremely accurate for the smallest of prints. The PX940 printer is well suited for transportation and logistics, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, shipping and distribution centres, industrial manufacturing, automotive parts suppliers, and applications that are regulated and require high precision accurate printing.

The PX4/6ie series is designed for mission-critical operations that need to print up to 12,000 labels per day. All-metal design and solid construction for 24/7 reliable service. Although extremely durable, it has the smallest footprint in its class.

What will this mean for me?

Please request quotes and availability as normal, and we will manage the replacement as necessary. Don’t worry about your label and ribbon media not working; in the majority of like-for-like printers the media is interchangeable, however in some mobile printers it is worth confirming the Roll Outer Diameter size as a smaller roll may be required.

End of life does not mean end of support; printDATA is an authorized service agent and will continue to supply spare parts for as long as they are available from Honeywell. End-of-Service dates are listed on the Honeywell Discontinued Products page.

We will continue to provide our exceptional customer service for EOL models in the areas of technical support, spare parts fulfilment, and warranty obligations as prescribed in our warranty policies. Your service agreement with printDATA still stands as prescribed in your signed contract.
